Public consultation: UN Sustainable Development Goals
Members of the Astrobiology Society of Britain are invited to contribute to a public consultation on the relevance of science to sustainable development goals (SDGs). OSDG is a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), SDG AI Lab, PPMI, and a community of researchers led by Dr. Nuria Bautista Puig. In Q1-Q2 of 2021 a large-scale exercise will be launched with the help of OSDG volunteers who will assess the relevance of different research fields to SDGs. This will provide valuable feedback on the boundaries of SDG-related research, and the...

Scientific research is an inseparable part of society. The resources needed to conduct scientific research are provided by society, and ultimately the achievements of science must benefit society–whether it be through new discoveries, improved methodologies, or sharing our expertise. The success and sustainability of our research depend crucially on building closer and more effective connections across different social groups. Modern scientists need to learn why society invests in our work, how we may deliver a return on this investment, and how we can best support society through both...

Many of us owe our love of science and indeed science education in no small part to learning about the wonders of space at an early (even primary level) age. Rosalind’s STARS (Space TARgets Science), an ASB outreach programme, aims to bolster that engagement with STEM subjects and support current curriculum activities at two key transition points in a pupil’s education cycle, key-stage 2 (7-11) and key-stage 4 (14-16), by focusing on the ExoMars 2020 rover mission. We hope to inspire pupils to engage/re-engage with STEM subjects through the topic of space science and the ExoMars mission and...
