Register Now! ASB10 Conference 2025: Planets and Life

Now announcing ASB10, which will take place at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. This year’s theme, ‘Planets and Life,’ will explore a wide range of topics within astrobiology, from the origins of life to the search for habitable environments beyond Earth.

DATES: 17-18th June 2025, with optional excursions available on the 19th June.

WHERE: University of St Andrews, Scotland.

REGISTRATION

Registration for ASB10 is now open! Please follow this link to register.

The deadline for registration is 10 June 2025. 

The abstract submission deadline is 26 May 2025 5pm.

The registration fee includes all daytime refreshments and lunch on both days, and the ECR event. There are four categories for ASB10 registration:

Current member of the ASB                    £85

ASB Non-member*                                £105

Student ASB Member                             £55

Student non-member of the ASB*           £65

*Non-member rates include 1 year subscription to the ASB.

At registration there is the option to select one of the optional trips on the 19th June.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Please submit your abstract using this template saved as “ASB10_Lastname” to astrobiosoc@gmail.com by the deadline of 26th May 2025, 5pm. Please indicate in the provided section of the template your preference for oral or poster presentation.

Abstracts for both oral and poster presentations are invited on topics spanning the theme ‘Planets and Life’, including, but not limited to:

  • Prebiotic chemistry
  • Planetary analogues
  • Solar System studies and exploration
  • Extremophile and space microbiology
  • Exoplanet habitability and detection
  • Biosignatures
  • Missions and instrumentation for astrobiology

DAY 3 EXCURSIONS

The third day has the following optional excursions for delegates (further details to follow)

  1. Rock and Spindle geology – an excursion to the renowned local geology along the Fife coast local to St Andrews.
  2. St Andrews Botanical Gardens – a ‘garden of experiments’, these gardens have a significant research focus into biodiversity and ecology.
  3. Discovery Point – visit the RRS Discovery in Dundee – a purpose-build research ship for the scientific expedition to Antarctica in 1901 under Captain Scott.

Depart St Andrews (on foot) approximately 10.30am, returning approximately 2pm. Following the Fife Coastal Path. Sign up is essential for this trip to plan for numbers. 

To add to St A Botanical Gardens:

Delegates have a 50% reduced entrance fee and students have free entry (with valid student ID). Delegates to visit at their leisure and are self led – sign-up at registration is not essential.

To add to Discovery Point:

Coach transportation will be provided on the morning of the 19th June and delegates will have a reduced entrance fee. Tours are self-led but sign up is essential for this trip if you wish to use the coach and benefit from the reduced entrance fee.

SOCIAL EVENTS

There will be a dedicated Early Career social on the 17th June, and an informal ice-breaker on the 16th June.

ACCOMMODATION AND TRAVEL

Reduced-price University accommodation for delegates for 16-19th June (3 nights) can be booked using the promotion code ASTRO2025: https://bnb.st-andrews.ac.uk/resbus/bnb/astro25.bnb. Options for single and double occupancy can be selected, and there are 50 rooms available, on a first-come-first-served basis. Room bookings at this reduced rate need to be made by Friday 18 April by 12 noon.

Other University accommodation can be booked here: https://bnb.st-andrews.ac.uk/resbus/bnb/. In addition, St Andrews has multiple small B&Bs and also a Premier Inn. 

Travel – St Andrews can be easily reached by train (Leuchars, shuttle bus approx. every 10 minutes to St Andrews), and the closest airports are Edinburgh and Dundee, both of which have train links to Leuchars.

    I am Vito Latorre and I am currently enrolled in a PhD programme at the University of East Anglia. As I already participated at ASB9 which I found and extremely valuable experience, I am really keen to attend the upcoming ASB10.

    I am therefore writing asking more information regarding the abstract submission. Particularly, on the website is mentioned the submission will be opened in March. Is there any date in particular?
