Environmental Ethics and Value in the Age of Exoplanets

Should we worry about preserving other planets’ environments? Should we consider asteroid-based minerals ours for the taking? These issues and more to be discussed at “Environmental Ethics and Value in the Age of Exoplanets”. These questions will be explored in an interdisciplinary workshop to be held at the University of St Andrews on 6 October 2018.

We will be working toward the production of an output: an essay that (1) lays out the central problems of environmental ethics relating to space science and exploration and (2) outlines how people from different disciplines can work together on answering them.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Jacob Haqq-Misra (Blue Marble Space Institute of Science)
  • Tony Milligan (Theology & Religious Studies, KCL)
  • Charles Cockell (Astrobiology, University of Edinburgh)

Registration will open soon.  For more information, email the organiser, Ben Sachs (bas7@st-andrews.ac.uk).
