PhD Opportunity, Leiden University

A new forum topic “PhD position European Training Network EuroPAH” has been created. A PhD position is available at Astronomy, Leiden University, under supervision of Prof. Tielens, in close collaboration with drs. ten Kate and King of Earth Sciences, Utrecht University. Carbonaceous meteorites and comets show a varied organic composition thought to reflect, at least partly, a heritage that dates back to interstellar clouds. A variety of processes on parent asteroidal bodies and comets will have modified any inherited material. PAHs are one key component in the interstellar...

Postdoctoral Research Position in Planetary Science

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher to characterise potential landing sites for the ESA ExoMars rover. The project will be based in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London, funded by a grant from the UK Space Agency. The research will involve the use of remote sensing data to conduct detailed geological analyses of potential landing sites on Mars. Of particular importance is the development of testable hypotheses to aid potential future geological exploration of the landing site. The successful candidate will be part of...

Research Opportunities with ELSI Origins Network

The Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) Origins Network project (EON) is a newly-funded project beginning on 1st July 2015, which aims to help build a cohesive and lasting global network of researchers working to address questions relating to the origins of life. EON was created to form a world-wide and interdisciplinary network, centered at ELSI, for research into the Origin of Life. Its goal is to bring together existing ideas from different sciences to shape each other’s development, and to create a collaborative research community with global vision, which can recognize and ask the...

PhD position: ExoMars PanCam at UCL-MSSL

A UK Space Agency-funded PhD studentship is available at UCL’s Mullard Space Science Laboratory, to work on science preparations for ExoMars PanCam, from 1 October 2015. The UCL-led PanCam instrument (Coates et al., 2012, Griffiths et al., 2006) on the ESA-Russia ExoMars rover is due to reach Mars in 2019 following its planned launch in 2018. The PanCam instrument consists of two wide angle cameras (WACs), each of which include an 11-position filter wheel, complemented by a high resolution camera. Images from the WACs at different wavelengths will provide geological and atmospheric context...
